Beatboxing Tutorial - Hollow Clop

How to make the sound:

1 - Learn the block click
2 - Ensure your throat is open
3 - Do the block click, but using more force and pressure from your tongue itself

Beatbox Tutorial - Playlist 1

Beatbox Tutorial - Inward K Snare

To make the sound:

1 - Put your tongue against the top of your mouth
2 - Suck air using your lungs and snap your tongue away from the side of your mouth to get the "K" sound
3 - For the "shh" afterwards continue inhaling - as the air rushes over your tongue you'll get plenty of air and the nice sound!

Beatbox Tutorial - Classic Snare Drum (Pff/ Pft Snare)

http://www.fattonybbx.com

To make the sound:
1 - It's similar to saying the word "poof" without the "oo"
2 - Once you have this "pf" vocalisation, simply experiment with your lips - generally the tighter they are, the higher the snare is

Beatbox Tutorial - Humming Whilst Beatboxing

http://www.fattonybbx.com Hummmmmmmmmmmmm. Hummmmmmmmmmmm. D'ya like my vacuum cleaner impression? I do. Here I'll teach you how to sound like a vacuum cleaner and a drum kit at the same time. How lucky you are.

To do the technique:
1 - Puff out your cheeks
2 - Note how while your mouth is full of air you can still breathe normally
3 - While humming, slowly squeeze the air through your lips. Congratulations, you're making two sounds at once!
4 - Using this technique, shorten the sounds (as you do normally) to produce the kick and snare
5 - Other sounds will require some creativity - for a hi-hat I normally use a tutting sound, but most sounds requiring your tongue can be done as normal

Beatbox Tutorial - Block Click

http://www.fattonybbx.com  Ah, the block click, a sound so simple I was doing it years before I even knew what beatboxing was. This is a nice easy sound that you can use quite nicely, and a sound that has a tonne of varieties that are all good fun.

To make the sound:
1 - Put your tongue against the top of your mouth and suck to build up a little pressure
2 - Pull your tongue down allowing it to hit the floor of your mouth

Beatbox Tutorial - Wob Wob Bass

http://www.fattonybbx.com  Wob wob wob wob wobwobwobwobwob wob wob wob wob wob wob. Wob.

... This is a fun sound.
To make the sound:
1 - Learn a lip oscillation (hopefully by watching my amazing tutorial)
2 - While doing a lip oscillation push your tongue forward to get a "wob" sound
3 - Lather, rinse, and repeat
4 - For the alternative sound, do the above to the side of your mouth without using air from your lungs. You can hum doing this

Beatbox Tutorial - Siren (Method 1)

To make the sound:
1 - Position your lips as if you were about to say "rr"
2 - Hum through your mouth and your nose Rahzel-style - that is, at the SAME TIME
3 - Do steps 1 and 2 together outwards, then inwards, then anyway you want
4 - Go out then in sharply to get the clown horn
5 - Use the throat tap for a cool effect

Beatbox Tutorial - Bongo Drum

Today, the bongo sound that doesn't sound anything like an actual bongo. I'll do a tutorial for a more realistic bongo sound at some point. This sound is probably best known as being used by Roxorloops, and for some beatboxers it's an absolute staple sound. I had fun filming this tutorial because I hadn't done the sound in a fair while - it was fun experimenting with some beats.
How to make the sound:
1 - Learn the inward K
2 - Learn the 808 kick
3 - Do them together
4 - Add a short hum to the end

Beatbox Tutorial - Easier Bongo

How to make the sound:
1 - Learn the inward K
2 - Do the inward K sound with a low pitched "ew" sound immediately afterwards
3 - This sounds kinda naff by itself, so put it into a beat

Beatbox Tutorial - Water Drop

How to make the sound:
1 - Learn to whistle without using any air from your lungs. This is done by pushing air past your lips using your tongue.
2 - Either flick your cheek or make some kind of clicking sound - a standard click or a tongue clop works best.
3 - Immediately after making the initial sound (the flick or click) do the whistle inwards then outwards quickly. This will get the sound.
To recognise the exact position you should have your lips in, watch my mouth carefully in the video.

Beatboxing Tutorial - 808 Kick, Throat Kick

There's a nice fun beat that I do through the mic. Ceto, Belgium's champion beatboxer, taught me it. He's a smashing chap, do go search for some of his vids, you'll be amazed.
To make the sound:
1 - It's unfortunately one of those sounds that is easy to do but tricky to describe!
2 - It's literally forcing the word "oof" through your throat
3 - Get it short and punchy and you've got it down!
4 - If you put a mic to your throat it picks the bass up extremely well

Beatbox Tutorial - Tongue Clop

http://www.fattonybbx.com  Hmm hopefully this clears up some confusion. This is a very quiet sound. It sounds far better into a microphone than without, put it that way. The "pouring water" is a great thing to do, it's very simple and fun.
How to make the sound:
1 - Curl your tongue back without touching the top of your mouth
2 - Flick your tongue downwards so it hits the floor of your mouth
3 - This can be done while humming or with an open throat to make it hollow sounding.

Beatbox Tutorial - Fast Hi-Hats

How to make the sound:
1 - Say "tikka", then take away the "ih" and "ah" so you just get a "tk" sound
2 - Notice how you use the front of your tongue for the "t" and the back of your tongue for the "k". This is what allows you to make the tktk sound so fast
3 - Go tktktktk as fast or as slow as you want - sorted

Beatbox Tutorial - Siren (Method 2)

Beatbox Tutorial - Vocal Tap

http://www.fattonybbx.com  Finally I've gotten my editing software to agree with me!  To make the sound:
1 - Tap your throat
While I joke about it, seriously be careful not to hurt yourself. Your throat is rather important - you don't need to hit it too hard, you aren't trying to give yourself a tracheotomy.

Beatbox Tutorial - Dry Kick

http://www.fattonybbx.com  The dry kick. Simple, but very effective. I'll be posting a couple of simple beats using this and the 808 snare soon.
To make the sound:
1 - Make a "duh" sound, as in "dog"
2 - Take away the "uh" so you just get an almost tap-like "d"
3 - That's it! It's a rather quiet sound, so be aware of this. You can make it hollow to give it a bongo-esque sound

Beatbox Tutorial - Kick Rolls

http://www.fattonybbx.com  Kick rolls! The second secret to speedy beatboxing, along with the fast hi-hats. Remember - practice makes perfect. Don't expect to be dropping 250bpm beats right off the mark.
My short beat here was rather quiet and a bit naff, to be honest. I normally use kickrolls in between bars, makes it flow better.
Hot to make the sound:
1 - Learn the dry kick, and learn how to do it with your lips together
2 - Alternate between the kick drum and the dry kick, so you get BdBdBd - think of it as "buddha buddha buddha"
3 - These are the clearest and loudest kick rolls, and also the most frequently used
Or...
1 - Alternate between a kick drum and a hi hat
2 - Do so quickly
3 - Note that this is quite hard to put into the middle of a beat, and suits better as a build up
Or...
1 - Learn the interconnecting hi hats
2 - Do them with your lips together
3 - Note that these are the fastest but quietest kick rolls

Beatbox Tutorial - Abra/Crab Scratch  (Guest Host Luckey Monkey)

To make the sound:
1 - Make a kissy face
2 - Put your finger against your lip (or, indeed, any part of your hand / arm / foot)
3 - Inhale whilst breathing words like "too" or "tooka"
4 - Use uvular oscillation and clickrolls to add rolls to the scratch
5 - Put into a beat
6 - Note that there are a massive variety of ways you can do this sound. The finger and thumb method described is the most common when it comes to putting the sound into a beat because it's possible to do it whilst holding a microphone.

Beatbox Tutorial - Whistle Scratch

To make the sound:
1 - Make any kind of vocalisation beginning with "fw", such as fwish, fwewa, fwewachera, etc
2 - Whisper it harshly, forcing as much air out as you want - generally, the more air used, the louder the sound will be
3 - Drop into a beat by replacing hi-hats with the scratch

Beatbox Tutorial - Electro Scratch

http://www.fattonybbx.com  The electro scratch is my favorite scratch because it can sound very similar to the Abra scratch (commonly called the "crab scratch") but A) you don't look like a moron doing it, and B) I don't hate it with the vengeance of an angry squirrel.
Yep, you read correctly, I hate the Abra scratch. Far too overrated a sound, it's almost impossible to do in a beat without completely destroying the power of your sounds, and everybody loves it to the point of despair.
ANYWAY!
This is a very fun sound to drop into beats, particularly faster beats.
To make the sound:
1 - Whisper the word "chewy"
2 - That's... pretty much it. Also try the words "cherry", "cheery", and "sherry"
3 - To put it into beats, replace hi hats with the scratch. It works well with the inward K as well.
The shirt I'm wearing is from www.mic-ware.com, by the way - I highly recommend you look at some of their threads, they are, as they say in the beatboxing world, "bloody awesome".

Beatbox Tutorial - Inward Zipper

To make the sound:
1 - Learn the balloon squeak
2 - Do it at the side of your mouth
3 - Keep it short and sharp
Pow. There's a blooper at the end of the vid too.

Beatbox Tutorial - Clown Horn

http://www.fattonybbx.com  I LOVE this sound - I finally mastered it about a week ago and I haven't stopped parping since. It's awesome! I genuinely hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
How to make the sound:
1 - Learn the siren, inwards and outwards
2 - Do the siren outwards, then inwards at a higher pitch
3 - Do this quickly and adjust the higher pitch until you're satisfied with it
Part 3 is the tricky bit - just practice and you'll get it eventually.
